Date: Wed, Jun 30, 2010 at 10:17 PM Subject: wanted to share a story with you... To: levolorman@aol.com Hi Rick, I hope this email finds you and your family well and that business is good. It's been too long since we've had a chance to visit, do let me know when you are back in Central Florida so that we can get together and make a Dixie Crossroads run for dinner. I wanted to share a great story with you about an amazing customer service experience that I recently had. I sold an Illumasheer the other day when only to find out that the fabric that I sold unfortunately was discontinued. I tried finding an alternate among my other fabric lines with no success. I then called Rory to see if he had a possible solution and of course he did. I spoke with him late on a Wednesday afternoon to discuss my dilemma, I received a phone call by lunchtime on Thursday with not one but 2 alternate color selections, he then offered to over night the samples to me which he did. By 3 p.m. Friday I had the selections in my hand and not too long after that a phone call from Rory calling to follow up to be sure that I had received his package and if the fabrics would work. By the close of business on Friday I not only had a solution to my problem, but a very happy customer! End of problem! I was delighted! I am not surprised by Rory's prompt and professional manner in which he handled my problem and the ease in doing so. Having worked with him for many years in the industry, he remains to be one of the most professional and ethical leaders in the window covering business. I applaud his excellent customer service and find it refreshing. It was great talking to you the other day and I hope to see you soon. Don't forget to let me know when you head this way Rock Shrimp are waiting! Date: Fri, 2 Jul 2010 08:57:37 -0400 X-Message-Number: 2 I am pecking on my iPhone, so this will be quick. I am in Maine with my mother and aunt. After eating at Moody's Dinah in Waldoboro a Curtain Shop van drove by and I thought it may be one of you....happy hanging. I am continually surprise at the non-conservative ideas some of you have with window treatments. I guess I am just a scardy cat but I would never put a motor on a 93" roman shade unless it were hard wired in. I don't want to own the treatments that I sell so I am 99.9% sure they will work. A motor with that length of lined shade I couldn't know would work until it were hung so I won't do it. I need to sleep at night so I am conservative with the tech stuff.....never with the design stuff. Still pecking here in Booth Bay Harbor. If all we blogged was about who needed what and what bracket somebody wanted to discuss this would soon be quite boring. Discussing the political and controversial stuff keeps us ahead of the game. Date: Fri, 2 Jul 2010 08:16:55 -0500 X-Message-Number: 4 It would be highly unwise to install ANY outdoor roller shade without some kind of guide cable. Wind sensors are nice but not essential. They just keep the unexpected damage down. But installing a shade without something securing the bottom rail is not smart. A gust of wind can pick up that bottom rail and damage things or people. Date: Fri, 2 Jul 2010 08:24:34 -0500 X-Message-Number: 5 A Somfy battery is more than capable of lifting a 93" long shade. I have done this with roller shades on many occasions. If you are worried about access to the batteries, you can get extension cables. If you are worried about the cost of replacement Somfy battery packs, they now make a pack that can be loaded with standard AA Lithium batteries for less than half the cost. Regardless of our personal opinions, this is an issue that will not go away. We have to live with it and take steps to defend our businesses. Having seen the ads on television "Think you may have been hurt? Call..." The three ways Americans now think they can become wealthy are: Inheritance, win the lottery, win a lawsuit. Like it or not, we, as business owners, are the targets. We deal with now, while still manageable, or wait until the lawyers carpet bomb us. These posts that have taken place are very valuable and I thank all the contributors. As a dealer, I may have limited ability to change product offerings from suppliers, but I can change the customer/dealer interface. Date: Tue, 29 Jun 2010 09:59:43 -0400 X-Message-Number: 8 Carol, I represent the Coolaroo product lines, in this slow economy it certain is refreshing to see that my Coolaroo sales by the end of May have surpassed my sales for 2009. With the rapidly rising costs of air conditioning and everyone trying to reduce their living expenses, there is simply no faster way then reduce the heat infiltration through glass. It is essential that the heat is blocked before it touches the glass. You can certainly expand your market with the bulk fabric. I had a customer who built a frame and put the Coolaroo around it like screen, a neighbor of mine bought the 6'roll to cover his chicken coop and if you are a fabricator, you can make your own roller shades. Four years ago I installed 2 of their custom exterior shades to 2 South facing windows in my upstairs living room, windows are 86" x 54", the shades lowered my living room temperature by 10 degrees which usually eliminates my need for AC, I can stand 78 degrees but not 88 degrees. Coolaroo also offers shade sails in triangles and squares which give you an instant shaded area in your yard at a very low cost. Some customers put the over their pools so that the water doesn't feel like bath water. With this weak economy, we need to look for "new" markets. By contacting your former customers and telling them that you offer heat reducing products for their yard or windows, I feel you would receive a very positive response. People will feel the difference immediately. You can see pictures on my website, or I will be happy to send them to you since I have the largest square (17' x 9') and the larges triangle (16'5") in my yard. http://bit.ly/9JBL9P www.uniquexpressions.net, please request wholesale pricing from: uniqshasta@charter.net. Of course the girls know about how much fullness for a stretch sheer and the best draping blackout. I gotta love you all, and I do. FYI, I recommended low voltage lifting for these long Romans.
