Date: Tue, 25 Aug 2009 07:41:36 -0500 X-Message-Number: 2 Dear Pro's Several points to consider on the topic of laminated verticals. First is on material inserted in groover or channel panel. The insert must be allowed to float in the groover. It should be attached at the top only. Do not laminate or glue it into the groover. PVC will expand during the day while exposed to heat from sunlight. If the insert cannot float the louver will bow or "banana" during the day. The insert will remain at it's fixed length. I have also had customers who the homeowner complained their vanes were too long during the day due to this expansion. The PVC will return to its original length in the evening when it cools off. Second remember that noise is a potential issue. If you are laminating onto aluminum there will be more noise especially if the windows are left open. It will not be as severe as aluminum vanes only which can sound like a vertical wind chime. The heavier the material laminated the less the noise will be. Also in a high traffic area like a patio door aluminum may be prone to bending. This could be a potential issue if there is a pattern or repeat. With a groover the material could be re-inserted in another piece if necessary. I know this information may be reduntant for most but they are points to remember on laminated verticals (or horizontals for that matter). If you have other questions on PVC feel free to call me on my mobile 832-620-3295. We have 3 decades of experience in extruding PVC at Plastibec and we introduced the faux stains with our patent pending Trends line for verticals and horizontals.
