I highly recommend that you download the full PDF of the standard from the WCMA's web site here. Perhaps we can begin to have an interesting discussion about the new requirements for roman shades. The compliance time for manufacturers is 90 days from the date of publication for Roman shades and 6 months to resolve the Roll Up break away. http://bit.ly/9xL0M9 Best Regards, Rory McNeil www.window-pro.org This standard was approved September 3, 2010 under the procedures for the publication for a Provisional Standard in the ANSI Essential Requirements Annex B. Date: Fri, 10 Sep 2010 11:46:48 -0400 X-Message-Number: 2 Regarding the drapery hardware rings inquiry -- Orion can provide these rings. We have our own center support bracket where the C rings slide over. If you are using any other support bracket, we will have to see if that is doable. Yes, it can be done in polished chrome or brushed nickel or pewter finish. For more information and a quote, please contact Edward by email or call Edward at Orion at 877-iron art. We'll be happy to help! Kay Blair kay.blair@att.net ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Large Motorized Roller Shade From: "David Lin"

While the rest of us work hard to provide the exceptional service, expertise and warranties we are also more generally know for, some do treat customers differently. Apparently, there are none in your business operation(s) who also don't represent the overwhelming majority? Nothing would please me more than for fellow BB's EE's to send to your personal email address the hundreds and even thousands of examples of customer accolades and positive references we receive on a regular basis; would you then select one of those to share with Window Pro as well? I think not. Date: Sat, 11 Sep 2010 17:31:58 -0700 X-Message-Number: 6 Not sure what your talking about. I said it reflects badly on all BB franchisees. It was meant to educate the industry to keep an eye out for each other. If you want me to share with window pro your accolades no problem. Please send them to me. Not sure why anyone in the industry cares about your accolades, but if you feel it is necessary please send them over. Each time our industry gets a news story on someone getting ripped off or another con man taking advantage of consumers we all suffer. In the last few years it was Michael Margott, and before that it some other guy and before that it was? This form has always posted such info to help other to make decisions in which whom to do business with and whom to stay clear of. If I offended you in anyway please except my apology. Steve Dale Blind Brokers 2.0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Franchise bashing From: JoBreeze@aol.com Date: Sun, 12 Sep 2010 02:40:38 EDT X-Message-Number: 7 Fellow Pro's, I may have missed some of the postings lately regarding a problematic situation with one (former?) Budget Blind franchise. After nearly 40 years in this industry, I have had the pleasure to work with thousands of independent business owners and thousands of various franchisees and franchisors. My personal experiences are the basis for my comments and observations. Quite simply, it's just my opinion, but one based on these 40 years of experience. Most independent operators join a franchise in order to better serve their customers and improve their sales and profits. I doubt that many of us can fault anyone else for this. A franchise can be the key to success for many independent operatprs who need some guidance with business practices, marketing, profit margins and a myriad of other topics. Some independents prefer to stay that way, because they are so independent they want to do everything their own way. That's not alwaus bad, however the trial and error method of one retailer doesn't carry much weight. Facts can be proven or disproven much more quickly qnd scientifically when the number of retailers are following the practice, and are entering data into the data base. Very quickly, a sharp franchisor can observe and forcast changes in the marketplace that will take most independent operators years to become aware of. There arre many other advantages to "banding together" under a common brand. Whether you choose to remain independent or join one of the many successful franchise organizations is your choice. I would only ask that we not condemn or criticise those who have chosen the "other" path. There's plenty of room for all of us, and thankfully we live in a country where we still have a choice of how we want to do things! Date: Sun, 12 Sep 2010 11:42:01 -0700 X-Message-Number: 8 You're right about it being reality. The other reality is what made America great is a strong and successful working middle class. That's something else were sending to China and India along with the jobs. In manufacturings headlong rush to maximize profit were eliminating the customers ability to buy the products. Look at our industry. How many people can afford our products. No matter how cheap we sell for there needs to be people to buy. There are less and less all the time. This is no longer an issue of money talks but survival of a way of life that's better than China or India. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Scottish Festivals From: "HARRY HUTCHERSON"
Date: Sun, 12 Sep 2010 15:55:50 -0600 X-Message-Number: 9 Attn: Rory, Judith, et al. Well, I know there are Gatherings of the Clan in many places across our great country, and that each locale probably believes theirs is the biggest and best, etc. BUT, here in beautiful Estes Park ( this very day as I write ) we are celebrating the 34th Annual four- day celebration of the "Longs Peak Scottish-Irish Festival" which, rightfully, ranks among the best anywhere. Why, we have the US Marine Band, over a dozen pipe and drum marching bands, more than 250 four-legged canine Representatives of the British Isles, hundreds of entrants in the joust, the tossing of the caber, dancing and jigging and jogging, and even several facilities devoted to the distilled essence of various malted libations. It is a balmy 74 degrees today at 7,500 feet under bright blue skies . . . Oh, and the lads 'n lassies in their kilts and bodices! All kinds of music and singers and fiddlers, and even evening "Tattoos" . . . well, come and see us one of these years, and you'll be most impressed, sure as a tartan is plaid. Date: Mon, 13 Sep 2010 10:59:53 -0400 X-Message-Number: 11 Judy, you repeated this so many times "money talks", truth is money plus value/quality talks. More and more people are beginning to wake up that cheap is not always the best solution/choice. I cannot tell you how many conversations I have had with people angry at the crap they purchased from Asia that broke down and does not function. I am close to the heart of our furniture manufacturing district. Those 300 plus companies who decided to shut down manufacturing and buy from Asia, are for the most setting up warehouses to fix and repair and then repackage the average to poor quality they are receiving. Many wish they had not reacted and now their grandfathered in EPA permits are gone and the employees are off to another trade or retraining in a two year school program paid for by the working tax paying folks whose jobs were are not effected by the closures and lost jobs. That's you and me. Note: Not all furniture imports are inferior, but you would be surprised how much is. Anyone have an opinion about the imported shutters or cut down blinds? Our industry has certain components that are very labor intensive and lower cost countries will receive much of the business. I agree about the American Laborer needing to wake up and we as the tax payer also need to take a more active role in controlling the support system for not working. It is all mixed up. Is it ok to pollute in China and fowl up the air there? I lived in Pasadena, Calif. next to Cal Tech and attended a lecture where it was claimed the air quality being polluted in China is now reaching our west coast. What is happening to the Ozone from our demand of products made in a less stringent environment? Does it come back to haunt us in the long run? I own a company, Accurate Millworks, who is a domestic wood shutter and Venetian blind component mill. Lumber is grown in close proximity to our factory. We are hanging in there. Certain customers do want domestic made components. The trees grow here. WE are shipping our lumber to Asia. Why? Why not? Our company can sell smaller, more just in time inventory. We can respond with a quicker turn around resulting in less money tied up in inventory. This can be a big cost to some businesses. Our prices are comparable to most Asians sources.... One day we will wise up and realize the true cost of buying imports, like the social ones, the environmental ones and the unemployment ones to name a few. The list of hidden costs is longer and the homeowner cannot calculate a real cost. They do have a better feel after this recession of the consequences of their purchasing decision. So go along and buy the cheap and smile, smile, smile.....I say we all start talking more and more about buying American, Made in USA pointing out the sustainability and environmental issues and a "tipping point" might happen that will begin to bring back a loyalty towards our own American production. Think of it as an investment in our kids future....
