I recommend him highly as I use him regularly for window covering installations for Haus & Home in Big Bear Lake, CA and also for many commercial jobs in Southern California, when I worked for Contract Decor, Inc. in Thousand Palms, CA. He is always on time, polite, great with the customers, and knows what he is doing. If any problems come up on the job site, he handles them without a complaint and then explains what he did to correct the problem. I hope you give him a try. Date: Thu, 8 Dec 2011 10:26:43 -0500 X-Message-Number: 2 OK Charles, We both know this isn't about Vivaldi and a Canali suit. A suit is a little odd for a guy to wear in our profession, don't you think? BB King is fab. As you recall my comparison was with news talk. Pick you music....I don't care....how about The Moody Blues....please don't any of you bring up Green Day or Lady GaGa, not the point. Actually, I read that if you listen to Mozart prior to taking a test statistics show you do better on a test. The reason is the complicity of the music gets the areas of the brain working for better analytical thinking. Don't argue, just try it. If it doesn't work go back to the news :-) Judith Clark, FIFDA, CID ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: 2012 Hunter Douglas Priority Dealer cost From: "Tom Ehly"
Date: Thu, 8 Dec 2011 10:54:42 -0600 X-Message-Number: 3 Just a quick complaint about the 2012 Hunter Douglas Priority Dealer cost. Last year they raised the price to $2100 for an annual cost. This year with the "recovery" still down the road they raised it to $2,500. We are fortunate to have a HD plant in town that makes great product. I love to sell HD but as a small business I have to keep a close eye on my sample costs. The other manufacturers are much more sensitive to our industry and sample costs. While I could afford to be a priority dealer, the cost has become too high. I think dealers need to let HD know we just aren't going to take it anymore. The point is folks don't read or they have poor comprehension. Due to this a businesses quick and apparent perception to the public must go a long way. Date: Fri, 9 Dec 2011 08:30:35 -0500 X-Message-Number: 5 Simply have to express the pleasure of reading Charles Sandler's response on the Budget Blinds issue. I felt I was enjoying an eclectic college lecture bridging Vivaldi, Canali fashion, to American Blues singers. I hope charles will write more in the future. Guarantee I will read them. I also agree with Charles about the dedication and professionalism of the BB folks. They are the leaders in building a network of dealers under a common brand, and making hundreds of business owners successful. No easy task. He is also correct, that no matter how much we educate and inspire the customer, if they don't have the money, they can't be a customer for top custom products. The trick here, is to have ways to target the people who DO have money, who do take pride in the beauty and emotional satisfaction of exceptional window fashions. Then, we need words to help them justify the value over time. They do have the money, if they feel the value they will buy. That is not easy when 4 out of 5 customers don't have the money for top products and designs. It is hard for the sales consultant to switch to a different value system of the 20% who want the good stuff. But, that is what good marketing is about today: attracting and closing more affluent customers with the right value perspective. Ain't easy. But, it can be done. Date: Thu, 08 Dec 2011 09:59:15 -0500 X-Message-Number: 9 Hey guys I have been in the window treatment business for over 7 years but made a big mistake last week. I had a sliding glass door measured the Luminette and added five inches for the header. Had another window that was different size approx 60 inches away same wall asked customer if he wanted it to go to floor he said no and I proceeded to measure 5 inches above the molding. Installation day the slider and window do not match up at the top........surprise surprise but I treated it as a separate window and it would look ok at different heights. I solved the problem by telling the customer I would cut off the slider to match the window so we could have the tops all the same height. #1 Does anybody know a company in Maryland that will cut down a luminette? I really do not want to send it back to Hunter Douglas. #2 If this does not work out should I be responsible for eating a remake? This business makes me so stressed at times..................... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Denise's Budget Blinds response From: R I Rampage
Date: Thu, 8 Dec 2011 09:36:47 -0500 (EST) X-Message-Number: 10 "Budget" Blinds is just a name, they sell many of the same products that we all sell (less some brands), and they tend to come and go pretty quickly. Every franchise that has been in my area has been sold in the last couple years. It's a "anyone can be in the business" franchise. Worry more about your business and less about theirs and you'll be fine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Caught Fire ? From: alanprostick
Date: Sun, 11 Dec 2011 16:20:58 -0500 X-Message-Number: 11 Dear Pro s : I was very happy , this past week , to see that there is still some controversy and humor left in this site. For a while there, it was really putting me to sleep. While the name "Budget Blinds" may not have ultimately decide what type of customer walks through the door, the name will certainly have an influence on the mind state of the customers who purchases there. You won't go to an establishment named "Budget" unless you care more about price than quality and selection. The name definitely tells you that the establishment is focused more on price than other concerns. That is not to say that they won't have a modicum of quality and selection, but you know by the name that you will give up something to get the lower price. As for going to Budget instead of Hertz , the name definitely tells me something about the type of car that they are likely to have on hand, the level of service, and , quite probably, lead me to believe that I will pay a price differential for Hertz over Budget. Please keep fanning the fires. If I want to go to sleep, I can alway turn on the TV. Alan Prostick ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., abandoned efforts to require the Consumer Product Safety Commission to issue tough new rules on window blind cords that can strangle children and tiny but powerful batteries that can harm small children if ingested."
